Sonic Product FAQ

What is Sonic Product?

Sonic Product is a new media company dedicated to supporting the careers of independent musicians. Founded by New York-based writer/musician/web developer Zac Shaw in 2002, Sonic Product was named after a term he coined to describe the difference between music as a product and music as an experience. See the manifesto for an in-depth account.

What does Sonic Product do?

For several years, Sonic Product operated as a small but respected web-based music magazine. In 2004, Shaw began working with the Evolving Media Network (EMN) to realize the larger goals of the company. He has consolidated his writing to a daily blog, "You are the Music Industry and publishing Scenery, a quarterly music magazine covering the Hudson River music scene with the help of Ulster Publishing.

Shaw is currently developing a new web-based initiative with EMN, seeking to provide a network of artist-friendly services and a suite of career-enhancing tools for independent musicians.
